World Lung Foundation

Overview & history:

World Lung Foundation was established in 2004 in response to the global epidemic of lung disease, which kills 10 million people each year. The organization also works on maternal and infant mortality reduction initiatives.

They work on providing assistance to deliver high-quality public health services. We seek to improve global health by improving local health capacity.

Organization:

The World Lung Foundation is a nonprofit, public charity organization registered in the State of New York.

Operations:

The Foundation develops projects and supports three principal areas of activity: research, public health and education.

Merck for Mothers

Overview & history:

Merck, recently established the Merck for Mothers Global Giving Program – a new corporate grants program through which Merck’s country offices can support eligible non-profit organizations working to improve maternal health and help reduce maternal mortality.

Organization :

Recognizing that maternal mortality is a multifaceted problem, Merck for Mother’s are working with global health partners, looking at all aspects of the issue, and applying Merck’s business and scientific expertise to the challenge.

Operations :

Merck for Mothers’s approach aims to tackle the two leading causes of maternal mortality: post-partum hemorrhage (bleeding after childbirth) and preeclampsia (hypertensive disorders). We are also focusing on family planning, which is known to play an important role in reducing maternal mortality.

Bloomberg Philanthropies

Overview & history:

IRIS

(International Resources for the Improvement of Sight)

Overview & history:

International Resources for the Improvement of Sight is a small, independent, charity, founded in 1996 by Michele Claudel and John Stewart. It specializes in prevention of blindness and restoration of sight.

Organization:

IRIS is registered as a charity in Switzerland, the United Kingdom, France and the United States.
IRIS programs are partly funded by institutions and private donations.

Operations:

IRIS operates in Cambodia, Sri Lanka and Nepal.

SIDA

(Swedish International Development  Cooperation Agency)

Overview & history:

Sida is a government agency working on behalf of the Swedish parliament and government, with the mission to reduce poverty in the world. Through their work and in cooperation with others, Sida contributes to implementing Sweden’s Policy for Global Development (PGU).

Organization:

Sida’s work is financed by tax money and we administer approximately half of Sweden’s total development aid budget. The other part is channelled through the ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Operations:

Sida follows three thematic priorities; democracy and human rights, environment and climate change and gender equality and womens’ role.
